Memories Anthology Anime Film Gets 30th Anniversary Visual, More Screenings

Katsuhiro Otomo’s 1995 anime anthology Memories is celebrating its 30th anniversary with special screenings across Japan this winter. The event includes a new commemorative visual and a one-week-only 35mm screening at Shin Bungeiza in Ikebukuro from January 17–21. The 4K remaster will also be shown at various theaters nationwide, including Tochigi’s Cinema Roble (Dec 26), Tokyo’s Morc Asagaya and CINEMA NEKO (Dec 12), Shizuoka Cine Gallery (Dec 5), Hyogo’s Yebisu Cinema and Sumoto Orion (Nov 28–Dec 7), Oita Cinema 5 (Nov 29), and Kagoshima’s Gardens Cinema (Dec 15 for one week).

Memories is a three-part anthology produced by Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo and based on his manga works. It features Magnetic Rose (directed by Koji Morimoto, written by Satoshi Kon), Stink Bomb (directed by Tensai Okamura, written by Otomo), and Cannon Fodder (directed and written by Otomo). Originally released in Japan on December 23, 1995, the film earned critical acclaim, especially for Magnetic Rose.
